Do not begin without reading and understanding these guidelines.
1. Immediate Physical Safety
- Choose a Safe Location: Always lie down or sit in a grounded position (e.g., on a yoga mat, carpet, or bed).
- Avoid High-Risk Activities: NEVER practice while driving, operating machinery, or when in or near water (pool, bath, ocean).
2. Health Contraindications (DO NOT practice if you have a history of):
Consult a doctor before practicing if you or your family have a history of:
- Heart/Vascular Issues: Heart attacks, angina, high blood pressure, aneurysms.
- Neurological/Eye Issues: Epilepsy, seizures, glaucoma, retinal detachment.
- Mental Health Conditions: Psychosis, personality disorders, hospitalisation for a psychiatric condition, severe emotional crisis, suicidality, or drug/alcohol addiction.
- Other Serious Conditions: Osteoporosis, recent surgery, or recent injury/illness, especially involving the head, neck, chest, ribs, or spine.
3. Age and Supervision
- Adults Only: Recommended for individuals over 18 years old.
- Children: Children practicing any form of breathwork must be supervised by a legal guardian at all times.
4. Possible Side Effects
Be aware that you may experience temporary effects such as:
- Physical: Light-headedness, dizziness, fainting, tingling, cramping, and muscle spasms (carpopedal spasms).
- Emotional/Mental: Disorientation, changes in body temperature, or feeling emotionally triggered and vulnerable.
